Lullaby (V.84)

A powerful work for soprano solo, SATB chorus and piano, with optional staging directions.

Lullaby is dedicated to the children who were lost in September 2004 when a school exploded in Beslan, Russia. The haunting lines of the maternal soprano solo laments not only her children, but all children, all people...the piano incessantly repeats a broken lullaby
fragment, while the haunting choir, at once comforting, turns dissonant and fragmented.
The piece swells and fades, returning to our solo soprano line, which also dies out,
leaving only the piano lullaby to continue.
