Grace (V.39) Single orchestral movement set of harmonic and textural variations on the timeless theme. Scored for light orchestra 2-2(1eh)-2(1bc)-sax-2; 4-2-2-1; timp, 3 perc, handbells, strings, harp I have always been fascinated by the passionate simplicity of folk songs and those classic simple church songs which an eternal home base of comfort music, music which shines with a purity and forthrightness which we all seek in our day to day lives. These themes naturally lend themselves to elaboration and variation, not to hide or discount their inherent power and beauty in a haze of ornamentation or flashy bravado, but to do honor to the fact that, no matter how complicated life, or music for that matter, becomes, simple beauty remains in all things. |
