Composed for the opening of the new concert hall at the John Cali
School of Music at Montclair University (NJ). Refered to as 'Copland
with a twist', An American Fanfare uses
elements
of
the
'noble
slow'
fanfare
style,
juxtaposed with a faster,
bitingly dissonant sound. A softer, more intimate middle section
develops the themes which recombine in a rousing conclusion which is
less recapitulation than evolved result.
