Silent Service (V.105)
Symphonic Band Grade V
Dedicated to the
Submariners of WWII
An evocative world of
muted sound and thunderous effect set the stage for this one-movement
work devoted to portraying the oft-forgotten world of underwater
warfare.
Submariners were some of the most valuable military forces during the
second world war, and this work attempts to depict, through broad
gesture and nuanced detail, the blindness, the cold isolation, the
utter
vulnerability and superior power which were the submariner's only
companions; allies and demons, silent in the depths of the sea.
